Haircuts

As some of you may know, I hate getting haircuts. I don’t really remember when this started, but I know it has been for some time. Let’s run down just a few of my fears.

1. Bad breath – Some of these people really need a mint or something.

2. Stranger – I don’t know these people who are cutting my hair.

3. Training – I see this little card with their picture on it, but what does that mean. For all I know, when Pro Cuts hires you they take your picture and tell you to put that card out there. I would like to know who taught them to cut hair and how many years they have been on the job.

4. Sharp Objects – This is probably my biggest fear. These strangers with bad breath and questionable training have sharp objects all around your head. What if you get a crazy person that just freaks out one day and pokes your eye out or cuts your ear off. That doesn’t sound fun AT ALL. NO FUN!!!

Christmas Theme

I was looking for another theme today. I was having trouble deciding which one to pick when it hit me.

It’s almost Halloween, so this new Christmas theme would be perfect. I can hear Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers singing right now.

Da Boys

I remember back in the early 90s coming home from church just as Troy was throwing a TD pass to Michael Irvin. It seemed that was just how football was supposed to be. Dallas scores on the first drive, Emmitt runs for 100 and 2 TDs, and Irvin spreads out his arms after scoring. I expected to see that and also didn’t think that would ever end. Then the last 10 years we all had the pleasure of watching horrible football. One losing season after another.After watching last night’s game, for the first time in awhile, I feel that we have a shot to go pretty far in the playoffs. I don’t think that includes the Super Bowl though. We showed last night we have some major weaknesses in our secondary. I know Newman was hurt, but we still would have looked bad even if he was in the game. Roy Williams is one of the hardest hitters in the league, but that doesn’t mean anything when you have to stop the pass. Honestly, they may as well put me out there. There were times when he looked like he had never played football in the NFL.Jerry, I can stop the pass just as bad as Roy can and I will cost you a lot less. Call me.

Where Have the Huxtables Gone?

Remember when watching television meant laughing with the Huxtables, or watching Sam, Norm, and Cliff at the bar. What about Knight Rider, or MacGyver saving the day with a strip of chewing gum and a piece of string. What great television that was.

These days, it is all about reality shows. Now don’t get me wrong, I like some of them, such as “Survivor”, “Big Brother”, and “American Idol”. I think reality shows should be in the mix if the people want them, which they have shown they do. I just wish they would make shows like the ones we grew up with. Shows that were clean and entertaining. I know that if the younger people had the opportunity to watch shows like that, they would enjoy them. How could you not enjoy watching “The Cosby Show” or “Cheers”. It is just not possible!!

When I think back about the Huxtables, it is like they were apart of the family. I don’t remember the name of each episode, just what happened, like it was part of a bigger story. Now, people say stuff like, “Remember the cast of Season 2, what about Season 6, they were awesome”. Huh? Some reality shows may be fun to watch, but they have nothing on the shows we grew up watching.

Remember the theme song to “Cheers”?

I know the names of the characters on those shows. I can’t tell you who was on the cast of Season 2 or Season 6, 7, whatever number. All I have to say is, where have the Huxtables Gone?

The Difficulty in Finding Boots

I am having a hard time finding a pair of boots that I want to buy.  I don’t know why this is.  I can walk into any shoe store and find a pair of athletic shoes that look good.  I don’t think I have ever walked out of a shoe store without picking out something.  These boots are a mystery to me.  I have looked and looked and can’t seem to find anything I like, and I have looked for probably a year or so, off and on. 

I am currently sporting the doc martins, which by the way I purchased almost 10 years ago, and they show the signs of being old.  I have a hole in my left boot that gets my sock wet and the straps to help you get them on came off several years ago, not to mention many other worn out areas.  I just wonder if the better route would be to try and get them fixed?  It’s probably just as hard to find someone to fix them as it is to find a new pair I like.  Well, I guess I will explore both options.  I’ll keep you updated, cause I know ya’ll are just dying to know.

Planning is Everything

Some of us understand that being prepared and having a plan is the foundation for being successful.  At work you must be organized and put your plan into action and follow through.  Doing these things usually results in success.  Not doing them usually gets you the opposite, unless you just luck out.  I try to have a plan in whatever I do, but why is it I can’t seem to do it at the grocery store?

I don’t know what it is about the grocery store, but I just don’t feel like creating a list of what I need.  It’s not even that hard, you just sit down for a few minutes and write down what types of food you will need for the week and what ingredients it will take to cook it.  I know this is the right way to do it, but I continue to walk in the store unprepared each and every time.  And what is the result each and every time?  I always get home and I have forgotten something, which screws up the meal.  Like today, I took out 2 pieces of bread for a sandwich, put my mayo on it, and went for the turkey.  Huh?  Where’s my turkey?  That’s right, I had no meat of anykind.  Are you freakin kidding me!

A simple list would have prevented this and I could have enjoyed a turkey sandwich.  But since I didn’t plan anything out, I was left with 2 pieces of bread with mayo on them.  Sad.  So very sad.

The Apple Store Experience

Today I visited the Apple store.  The main reason for going was to check out the new iMac computer, but for all of you that have been to an Apple store, you know you end up looking at everything.  That’s just the way it is.  It’s like Apple thought this out or something.  Anyway, as I walked in I saw the iPhones off to the right.  I totally forgot about those things, and because I had never actually used one before, it was obviously the first thing I tried out.  The first thing you notice is how small they are.  It’s not like I thought they were huge or something, but they were much smaller than I expected and very thin.  Any then you turn the little thing on.  Wow!  It makes my Blackberry look like a piece of junk.  I checked out the the calendar, maps, internet, and of course the ipod, which by the way is the best they have ever made.  I then realized I had to put it down or else I was going to buy one.

So after the iPhone experience, I went on to the reason I was there, the iMac.  Now this is a total piece of crap, NOT!  Apple has done it again.  They keep trying to get me to be a mac guy and I just don’t know if i’m ready.  This thing has “awesome” written all over it.  It’s an all-in-one computer that looks great and has the power behind it for almost anything you want to do.  The problem is I am so used to windows,  I just can’t seem to take the plung.  I know it will happen one day, just not today.

I guess i’m just tired of things not working right on windows and Apple does say their stuff “just works”.  If Apple keeps designing products like the iPhone and iMac, it might not be that long before the switch is made.
